PATH 18 QOPH An Introduction The path from the first brain circuit (Malkuth) to the fourth brain circuit (Netzach) is path 18 on the Tree of Life. It is called Qoph which means the "back of the head" in Hebrew. This is in reference to the Medulla Oblongata, a small knot of brain cells which control our autonomic functions. The Medulla Oblongata, located at the back of the head controls heart rate, breathing, circulation of the blood, things that are strictly automatic normally and are connected with survival. Also in this area is the sight center of the Posterior Lobes of the Cerebellum. Since the first brain circuit is the Biosurvival circuit and the fourth brain circuit is the sexual circuit, we can piece together the possible interaction between these circuits represented by this path. It is said of this path on the Tree of Life, "The imaginative force of Venus is used to build better bodies to serve as vehicles for the subtle forces." With this we see that according to the Tree of Life, the first circuit will use the fourth circuit as an outlet to better survive. A better body serving the Biosurvival circuit will certainly do this. The person controlled (and controlling) through sexual roles is strongly controlled by the Biosurvival circuit for enhanced survival. You can tell that it is the Biosurvival circuit when the control of sexual values are used to "be safe," to protect and gain monetary levels, to attract the "right" mate (Mr. Money), to isolate themselves from the problems of the world. The Tree of Life further calls this path the Corporeal intelligence or Body Intelligence indicating the control of body from deep within. Not a higher intelligence, this path connects our lowest intellectual circuit to our highest conscious brain center. Our physical body normally reflects our mental, habitual, state. Our Biosurvival circuit often will produce beauty to survive. The male who works out constantly to produce the strongest possible body is likely doing so in response to the needs of the Biosurvival circuit. Likewise, the person with the large weapons collection who needs a hidden weapon permit and constantly carries a gun in their possession ( and are not law enforcement) have damage in their first brain circuit normally. Since the autonomic brain center, the Biosurvival circuit, works all over the body without conscious thought it can control (and does control) the way the body looks, the way the body feels, and the health of the body. The image the Biosurvival circuit has is transferred throughout the body and is forced on the body during waking and sleeping times. The Biosurvival circuit does not sleep, does not stop functioning when you are unconscious, in fact, only stops at death. It is a little demon (or angel) of activity all the time. It knows and remembers even the surgery you had while under general anesthetic. People who have major operations commonly have post-operative trauma brought about because the Biosurvival circuit knew and was aware of the invasion and seeming harm done to the body. The Biosurvival circuit never forgets. Retraining the Biosurvival circuit comes from the conscious to the unconscious. The path the Biosurvival circuit uses to force the conscious to do its bidding is not a one-way street. We can use the conscious mind to influence and change the Biosurvival circuit. To do this, we must evaluate what is going on in our lives, personality, body, work, relationships, etc., and decide what is likely an effect of the Biosurvival circuit forcing us to live according to our fears. By actions taken consciously, we begin to retrain the Biosurvival circuit. Actions from the fourth circuit take the form of action in the sexual realm. These actions may be culturally oriented in the case of a first circuit with no cultural affinity or may be counter cultural for a first circuit over-imprinted with cultural "values." To cure fear in the first circuit, we consciously do things with some small risk that are also fun. With practice, the first circuit becomes accustomed to the slightly risky (or risqué) behavior and the actions taken on the conscious plane can be stepped up to more risky (or risqué) but "funner" activity. Each move forward will be accompanied by an outburst of fear from the subconscious that must be overcome if improvement is to be made. A healer works from outside to do this. Shamanism "exorcises" devils (subconscious damage) by use of ritual. Such ritual often consists of music, singing, drums, noise, chants (especially foreign words), strong smells, bright lights, darkness, drugs, relaxants, and most of the time some form of breaking of sexual taboos. The breaking of sexual taboos may take the form of disrobing for an examination or to be painted, dipped, baptized, probed, bled, etc. In cultures where nudity is common, the patient is usually either heavily and fancily dressed or elaborately painted. In cultures where nude is rare, the Shaman will cause the patient to be nude. The counter-cultural effect is valid and works. The Shaman can indeed "cast out devils" from the first and second circuits.
