THE HUMAN BRAIN AND THE TREE OF LIFE

INTRODUCTION

The human brain is your most unique organ. Other parts of your body may fail to operate or even be removed but the brain is the last bastion of our real personality, the thing that makes us aware of ourselves as individuals. "I think, therefore I am" has been the cry of philosophers throughout the ages.

We can replace hip joints, lungs, kidneys, livers, even hearts. We can live with our bodies paralyzed from the neck down. We cannot replace the brain nor live with the body paralyzed from the neck up.

The brain has always been a mystery to the average person and to philosophers, and to scientists. Studies of the brain's function continue today and mystery remains. Scientists are approaching real answers and gaining insights into the functioning of the brain. Scientists are also finding questions so large they do not know yet whether the brain can even be capable of doing what it actually does.

Psychotherapists have mapped the functioning of the human brain from the outside by using analysis of the thought processes. Scientists have mapped the functioning of the human brain from the inside by remote sensing electromagnetic techniques and by some direct electrical input (wires in the brain). Medical personnel have mapped the functioning of the human brain through the evidence of damage to certain areas of the brain. Philosophers have mapped the functioning of the human brain by examining the way people behave and the course of history. Spiritualists have mapped the brain through meditation, careful analysis of the esoteric energy of the body, and inspiration. Drug gurus have mapped the brain by applying circuit-specific drugs to the brain and observing the effects.

From all of these varying sources there is a merging agreement about the basic functioning of the human brain. Although Freud and Jung did not see eye-to-eye, they did see brain-to-brain. Scientists and spiritualists are finding agreement in spite of their attempts to separate from each other. Even philosophers and drug gurus find common ground with the rest of the crowd about how the brain is organized and functions.

Common ground is to be expected when dealing with something that actually exists. Even the flat earth society agrees there is a North America and that it has a relationship and common border with the Atlantic Ocean. The astounding part of this is that such widely diverse groups as spiritualists, scientists, and drug gurus have come to agree on the functioning of the brain and the map they agree on is the same map provided to us thousands of years ago.

Out of the blankness of pre-history come a few lights. Sanskrit, the proto-language of humanity was a complex functionally complete language which means there was a lot of pre-history to the pre- history. Throughout these unwritten epochs men and women contained similar or equal (possibly even higher) brain power to modern man. They could think as well as we can and as complexly.

Sanskrit writings such as those forming the base of the Brahman and other eastern religions have been largely ignored by western religions, historians, philosophers, etc. These Sanskrit philosophical treatises contain much complex thought and relationships with god, other humans, and within ourselves.

From these Sanskrit philosophies come modern psychotechniques such as various yoga methods, several martial arts, aspects of Christianity, and a map of the function of the human brain. Now I won't pretend to know how they got this map. The map is called the Tree of Life, the Otz Qiim, the Qaballah, and various other names. We'll call it the Tree of Life for now.

The Tree of Life is more than 5000 years old and may be more than 12,000 years old. It is a set of symbols which represent the functioning of the brain and much more. It is used as a method of spiritual attainment and should not be thought of as a religion.

The Tree of life has been used extensively by the ancient Chinese, Tibetans, Sufis, Magi of all cultures. In the time of Christ it was used by the Essene sect of the Jewish state and is still part of the Jewish religion. It is an integral part of many spiritual efforts and is as important today as it ever was. Its importance lies not only in its historical significance as a scientific study of the brains function predating the era of modern science by a few thousand years but also is important for its spiritual message and its message of affirmation. The Tree of Life is also important in promoting emotional and physical health by understanding the function of the mind, what is wrong, and how to set it right.
